Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mark Buehrle tossed eight solid innings to
help lead the Chicago White Sox past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-1, in the
first of three straight interleague meetings at Chavez Ravine.
Buehrle (5-6) allowed one run on six hits and struck out two for Chicago,
which snapped a season-high, nine-game road losing streak. Scott Linebrink
pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
"I'm making pitches and, even when I'm not, they are popping them up," Buehrle
said. "I was throwing a lot of sinkers and getting a lot of groundball
outs."
Dewayne Wise finished 3-for-4 with a triple, double, an RBI and two runs
scored for the White Sox, who had lost three straight overall. Jermaine Dye
hit a two-run homer, while Orlando Cabrera and Carlos Quentin both went 2-
for-5 and scored a run. Cabrera also drove in a run.
Delwyn Young hit a solo home run for Los Angeles, which has lost three of its
last four.
Derek Lowe (5-7) gave up five runs on nine hits and fanned eight over 7 1/3
innings.
Lowe dug himself a hole in the opening frame, yielding three straight singles
to Cabrera, A.J. Pierzynski and Quentin before Dye went down swinging. Nick
Swisher's fly ball got a run home, but Lowe induced a groundout from Pablo
Ozuna to avoid further damage.
Wise singled to lead-off the second and, after Alexei Ramirez struck out,
Buehrle bunted him into scoring position. Cabrera then stroked a single
to left field for a 2-0 lead.
Ozuna led off the fourth with a walk and advanced to third on a double by
Wise. Ramirez then hit a high bouncer to third baseman Andy LaRoche, who came
home with the throw. Ozuna, going on contact, was subsequently tagged out by
Russell Martin, who did a tremendous job blocking the plate. Buehrle and
Cabrera grounded out to end the inning.
The Dodgers got on the board in the fifth on Young's one-out blast to the
left-field bleachers.
A one-out single by Quentin in the eighth snapped a string of 13 in a row
retired by Lowe. Dye then crushed his 17th home run of the season.
"I feel like I'm having good at-bats," Dye said. "I'm seeing the ball and
putting some pretty good swings on the ball. Derek (Lowe) made one mistake to
me all night and I hit a home run."
After Swisher singled to right, Cory Wade took over the mound duties and
induced a groundout from Ozuna, but Wise lined a triple past a diving Young in
right and scored on an RBI single by Ramirez for a 6-1 lead.
The Dodgers went down quietly in the eighth and ninth innings.
