Houston, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Houston Astros catcher Humberto Quintero left
Tuesday night's contest with the Los Angeles Dodgers after suffering a
concussion when he was struck in the head with a bat.
Quintero left in the top of the second after a Luis Maza backswing caught the
backstop square on top of his catching helmet. The 28-year-old Quintero lay
motionless at first and Astros trainers had to help him off the field after
several minutes of deliberation.
Quintero was taken to the hospital where he will stay overnight for
observation. A CT scan was negative but the team decided to place him on the
15-day disabled list following the game.
The sixth-year player is batting .244 in 14 games this season. Brad Ausmus
stepped in behind the plate going 0-4.
The team announced catcher J.R. Towles will join the team from Triple-A Round
Rock, taking Quintero's spot on the roster.
Towles hit .145 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 42 games for Houston earlier
this season
